Samoa: Fall 2019
I am in the process of researching an opportunity to travel to Samoa this fall to teach basic computer skills and writing to students from a developing village on the Island of Savai'i. The goal is to provide them with technical knowledge needed to be resourceful and capable in the modern world, also providing them with abilities which can open doors for further education and employment.
A study commissioned by The University of the South Pacific shows that only 7% of households use internet connections and are most often found in Apia Urban where a household member has a postsecondary education.
*Samoa has a population of just under 198,000.
Consider the significance technology has on our ability to not only go to school and find jobs, but also to simply communicate and maintain a network. Computers play a huge role in the opportunities we receive as well as the resources we use on a daily basis.
More to come...
